Submission requirements for essays


  • Article title and date.

  • A brief description of your paper.

  • The article format should be Microsoft Word.


  • The Reeds seeks to encourage critical thinking. We welcome papers of high quality that provide an original interpretation of great works of great thinkers. 

  • Papers may examine or interpret an issue in a 'Great Books'-type text to incite discussion relevant to the liberal arts.

  • Writing should be clear and original.

  • Works quoted and discussed should be cited. Citations should follow a standard (e.g. MLA, APA), whatever is appropriate for the subject matter.

    1. I represent and warrant that I am the/an original author of the Work.


    1. I, as the Author, hereby grant The Reeds only the right to use my work under the CC BY-NC License; additional terms may apply.

    2. No copyrights are transferred by this Agreement; therefore I, as the Author (or the copyright holder if different from the Author), shall retain all rights. In addition, I, as the Author, shall retain all intellectual property rights to the Article and the responsibility for enforcing those rights.

    3. If I am the copyright holder of the Article, I certify that any third-party content in the Article (such as images, audio, video, music, text, data sets, or other accompanying material) has been used with permission from the copyright holder(s).

    4. If a Work includes interviews, I certify that I have permission from the interviewees to make their interviews public.

    5. If an Article includes research involving human subjects, I certify that I have been approved for such research by the Institutional Review Board of my institution.

    6. I certify that the Article does not contain any libelous or unlawful statements or infringe on the rights or privacy of others or contain material or instructions that might cause harm or injury.

    7. I agree that The Reeds has the right to make minor corrections to the format and the language of the Article.

By submitting the Article, you represent and warrant that the above are true.

Each article submitted will undergo the editorial decision process. The Reeds is not under any obligation to publish the Article. We will send you notices at the email address associated with your account.
